I've got a pair of kings on the flop and 3 by the turn. It's just me and one other guy heads up. There's a possible flush draw on the board so I go all in expecting him to fold. I flip over my three of a kind kings, he flips over his.... gut draw straight? wtf?
He needs a 5 on the river to win. One of the other players declares he has already folded one of the fives. That's three fives left in the deck. As the river is flipped over, the dealers arm is in the way, all I hear is a huge "WAAAYYYY!!!" The dealer moves his arm and there's that 5 sitting oh so proudly on the table. Lucky son of a bitch.
I'm sure memories like that effect my play but this one is far worse:
I can't remember exactly how it went down but basically I thought I had 3 of a kind and I was praying that another diamond didn't come on the river cos then there would be a possible flush on the table. The river comes with a diamond and the other player moves all in. I take a while to think things over and then finally fold. I folded a full house. Wasn't paying attention to the pair already on the board.
Earlier that day I had read about someone doing that exact same thing and I laughed. I don't think I'm ever gona live that one down.
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. Yeah, this is painful, especially because when you make your boat, you want the other guy to make his flush! I think I was busted at a tournament by a full house once, because the darn river card completed my nut flush!
