I was recently playing in a $10 dollar buy-in NL Texas Holdem Tourny
we started w/ 11 players and i made it to the final 4
i was third in chips ($16.00) and got dealt A 10
I raised $5.00 preflop and got one caller (Player A ($12.00 but after call has $7.00)
The flop came 9 10 7
i bet $5.00 ... Player A pondered awhile and then went all in.. which made me have to call another $2.00
I figured i had good enough pot odds and called
Player A had 8 5
Turn: 4
River: J
Catches straight on river!!!!
TWO HANDS LATER... im short stack at $7
get dealt A Q
get caller ( Player B $18) he flips over K 9
FLop comes 6,9,2, turn 4, river 10. (suits didnt matter)
im gone losing to a pair of nines...
MY QUESTION... did i play these hands right?

These two hands really don't sound like bad beats, more like bad luck. The first hand, the guy was short stacked and had an open end straight draw. The second was a coin flip, which you were only a 64% favorite.
The first hand I really don't like your raise with ATo, but I don't know what your position or the blinds were. With a flop like that I would be worried, especially if my oppenent was loose or didn't respect raises.

A X off is always going to be a gamble, and it's a dngerous one because it looks safer then it is.

Yeah, I prefer AX to be suited, at least you have more options to get yourself in trouble.
