As much as it pains me to admit it:

I started playing with the $1/100 chips from Walgreens about 5 years ago. This was a super-casual, just-for-fun, no-money-involved game back when I was trying to teach all my friends the game so as to get a decent weekly group together.

That kind of fell through, and the chips went into an old Wal-Mart bag, and eventually became my 3-year-old's counting game Smile

When I started Law School last year, I found a few people in my study group (and/or their spouses/boyfriends) played, so I spent about $80 on a few (1500) Dice chips.

When I can afford it, those are going in the trash (I'm not even going to foist these pieces of junk on another player, even though the 1000 pc. set is MUCH nicer quality than the 500 pc. set), and we'll probably pool some dough for better chips.

I went from cheap-o plastic blue/white/red drug store chips that I owned to Dice chips friends own. I've moved to Matsui, Paulso, ASM and ChipCo samples for my own shuffling, and am about to buy my first set of personal home chips with the Pharoah's Club Paulson's. I'm thinking about getting some of the Matsui Decals and ASM HorseHeads as well.

Straight to clay

My first set was/is clay... In the past someone else always supplied the chips and they were 11.5g "dice" style or worse. As with most things I always look at it like this - I can either spend a small to moderate amount on something and that might work for a while OR I can do the research, save the money and buy "the best" and be completely satisfied with my purchase for the life of the product. There is so much more satisfaction when you have something of the highest quality.

Hey buddy, when your ready to throw all those chips in the trash. You PM me and I'll take em off your hands. Just cause they arent high end chips doesnt mean they wont get used.

Went from 300 diamond 7g chips to Chipco.

I'm currently using the "good" Costco composites and 10g faux clays. When my Paulson JB group buy order comes in I will give the Costco chips to a buddy and continue with the faux clays as my traveling/tourney set and PJBs as my home cash set.
