Durability of TRKings?

Posted Sun Mar 20, 2005 12:49 am GMT by CrapGame
My first post. Great site. Anybody know about the durability of TRKings? I haven't found any info on the net about this characteristic of the TRKings. I'm wondering if the edges, because of the crown recesses where it's thinner, would tend to break after some considerable abuse. See, one day, I hope to get some Paulsons or TRKings. I was semi-interested in PC.com ASM's until I read about some durability issues with those chips. There's no question about the Paulsons. But I like the look and the price of the TRKings better, and I hope they would last a long time. Maybe later I'll order some samples to decide this question for myself. But for now, does anybody have some input?

I havent played a single game with the TRKing chips. Yes, I have a sample set. I would say that the TRKings are probably the most durable clay chip you can buy. To me, they feel a little rubbery. YOU WILL NEVER WEAR OUT A SET OF TRKING CLAY CHIPS IN YOUR LIFETIME OR YOUR KIDS AND PROBABLY THEIR KIDS. Those chips are virtually indestructable. The inlays will NEVER peel up. If your buying on durability alone, these are the chips you want. They dont do it for me overall, but everyone has their opinion. SAMPLES, SAMPLES, SAMPLES!!!!!

I have broken ASM chips fairly effortlessly (and unintentionally) with my bare hands. I think that I would break my fingers or have a stroke before I came even close to damaging a TRK.

These chips are bulletproof (well not quite, but you get it.) Very well constructed.

Ditto!

Had a set of casbah clubs, will have a set of kings crowns in a few weeks. No durability issues.

Thanks for the feedage back! I will take your testimonies to heart. I've got my eyes on a set of these chips, though I haven't ordered samples yet.. But just to be sure, you're saying that I, you, or "Drunk Bob" could spill a drink on these chips and they would survive? If so, then my mind is already made up. Thanks.

Ya these things are beasts. I just got done playing with a set at my buddies house and a kid that everyone hates decided to spill his glass of water all over them. They turned out fine after drying them.

I've been shuffling my samples at my desk while I'm on the comp for the past few months, and I've washed them harshly with warm water and a soapy old toothbrush (something I'd never do with anything other than samples, of course) and they just look better and better.

Even a chip which occured during shipping on one of the chips which exposes a fairly porous looking clay, has not been further damaged by any of this! It just blends in more.

sweet chips.

Only a week or so away fellas! The suspense is killing me!

Yeah, gotta second that. I have some old crown mold chips that are still in great shape. And I just received some new Kings Crown samples, and so far they also look solid as hell. The quality of the manufacturing, the sharpness of the mold, the inlay really inlaid into the mold with a nice seamless surface, bright chip colors and printing colors, etc. -- everything is good.

My only (very minor) issue is their diameter -- my new samples are about 38.5mm vs. the usual US 39mm. It's a teeny tiny difference (that's an engineering term, of course, the actual difference is about 2/100ths of an inch), but if you stack them with Paulsons you can notice it. But they fit in racks and cases just fine, and play great.

Yeah, but who mixes Paulsons and TR Kings within a game? Shocked As long as all the chips in front of you at the table are the same size, all is well and good.

That's exactly what I meant to say, Ray!

I assume that you are referring to the Custom Kings Crown Group buy that took place a while back.

If so, please post pictures of all the chips once they arrive and give us a report of your experience.

I am a newcomer to this site and have been playing with samples on my desk for the last month or so. I have chips from about 2 dozen chip sets including all the usual clay suspects ie Paulson (several real casinos), paulson JB new, Blue chip -- NJ, Martini Club, JB, Modern Clay, Chipco--egyptian, Casinos, Apache Casino, Desert Sands (Chipco Style) and ASM--Horsehead, Roman, A-American Molds. I e-mailed Matsui about a week ago for clay samples and I have not heard back yet.

I now wish that I had gotten in on this group buy as TRKing chips are my favorite. Oh well, I will just have to design a set of my own!

Oh, don't you worry, my friend - there will be pictures aplenty!

I am hoping they start showing up on our doorsteps next week...

I talked to Dennis this week. He said he hopes to have them done at the end of next week, so we're still a week and a half to two weeks away from getting them.

I should have mine first since I'm walking distance from TR King! Of course, will post pictures, getting 650. I can't wait!

Officially sir, you are a bastard! Laughing

I have to get them shipped to my cousin in FLA and have her ship them to me in the Great White North, otherwise customs would gouge me a new one with all of the duties and taxes!

It looks like I'll enjoy them through you for an extra week.

damn.

I think I may try to avoid looking at pictures until mine arrive...if that's possible.
