I have some of the Bond Paulson's on the way, so I am not interested in buying, but that is a nice design.

It has a very classy look, the font matches the theme very well. The only thing I do not really like is the shadow on the denomination. Others may like it though, so that is just my opinion. Good work!

I posted one mock up this morning but shortly after I unclogged my brain with some coffee I remembered I wanted to wait until after the current group (Ten's Paulsons) buy has completed before I really start advertising my new design. Just something Ten and I agreed about... My apologies to anyone who was anticipating them. I also posted one last night on the other bluechip thread but for anyone who saw it - that is not at all what was posted here. All I will say now is I don’t think anyone will be disappointed.

Man, you guys are too respectful here.
If it were me, I'd be goading the Pharoh's club buyers into joining my Blue Chip group buy.

Posted Mon Mar 21, 2005 11:40 am GMT by B_rock
It seems like your "arrangement" is contravening competition acts...haha...just kidding. Laughing

But seriously, shouldn't the forum members, who make up the bulk of the buyers for these group buys have access to all options before they commit to one? I mean, many people are going in on Ten's group buy because they are Paulsons and the chips have a good, custom design. But that buy is still a few weeks away from even collecting money.

What is the harm in just showing us an inlay design, or perhaps shed some much needed light on your goal for a custom mould. It's not like you are at the money collecting stage either, no one needs to commit to anything at this point, so lets just see what you have.

I wouldnt wait for his group buy to end. Give people a choice.

Posted Mon Mar 21, 2005 5:18 pm GMT by ott
Pharoah's club group buy may take a while to complete. They're looking to get 100K chips order. Not some simple task.

For a BC group buy, I'm sure you're not looking to get the 100K for a price break. Blue Chips wouldn't mind doing 10K chips.

Ok after much consideration I have decided to post the mockups for these new chips. What you see here is each separate possibilities. I'm also considering other designs but these are the ones I like the most so far. In addition to this one thing I forgot to ask Mike Endy last week was if they would do scalloped inlays. I would like to have them, so if he says yes the next time I talk to him I will update the mockups to reflect this. Also, as things progress I will create mockups for all denominations so there is no question about what is going to be available - what you see here is just a "sneak peak" and is not the absolute final concept; these are intended to show the direction I am heading only.

The following denominations will be offered:
25c, $1, $5, $25, $100, $500, $1000

As for the chips them selves - My intention is to have various combinations of single, double, and triple edge spots and possibly no spots on the 25cent chip. I am hoping to use the mold you see here but this is still not hammered in stone. The base color for the chips is not completely decided but I like the colors seen here with exception to the yellow (I will probably go with something a bit darker for it) but all this will depend on what is available from Bluechip.

Weight - I have discussed trying to get a full weighted chip (10g) with Mike however, at this point the best we can hope for is 9.6 and they could ultimately be less depending on the mold and inlay size.

The chips will cost no more than 75c and not less than 65c each.

If you have questions/comments/ideas this thread will serve as the primary means for communication for now. If you have questions that concern your personal situation regarding purchase etc PM me.

We are only in the EARLY stages of this so if you want to buy chips soon refer to TenPercenter's custom Paulsons; they will be one of the finest chips available and arguably superior to these. I hope to move this along as quickly as possible but a realistic time line is 2 months given what we have heard about BC and because of the mold issues I am dealing with.

Thank you in advance to all who constructively provide input; my hope is to create a design that many of you will enjoy.

Not really my kind of theme, but great looking chips.

So I take it that that is a blue chip mold?

Reason I ask/comment, is that some of the elks chips I found have that same exact mold

As does this Cuban Casino (or did, very old chip I presume):

I have seen this mold on quite a few old chips and I'm not sure who produced them. Up until now I have assumed that it was not a BC mold and I would have to pay BC to create it for me. Now you've got me thinking that if they already have it I might be able to convince them to use it one my chips and save the $7500 setup fee for a new mold. Wink

Glad you like them Yeltzen...

Wow. I didn't know BC had a Greek Key mold. I know ASM used one back in the 50's. I almost wished I had known that when I ordered my Greek themed chips with pokerchips.com!

I think the design is great. I'd suggest making the $ sign much smaller though. Very nice work so far!

That mold is commonly referred to as small key. I doubt BC owns that mold or even if they can reproduce it.

That is/was an ASM mold. I have a Moulan Rouge and and a Cal-Vada Lodge Chip in that mold that were made by ASM (then known as the Burt Company). Look at the "Riviera" and "Last Frontier Chips" on this page:

http://www.pokerchips.com/help/history3.html

Not sure who, or if any one, owns the mold now.

Here are a couple of mold designs I came up with. It's like the small key but different yet still classy.

Posted Thu Mar 24, 2005 3:12 pm GMT by circlencircle
I spoke with Mike again and he said he was very hesitant to copy a mold and ultimately decided the answer was no. I went so far as to call ASM sales and speak with a manager about purchasing the actual Small Key mold from them but despite that they no longer use it and its in archive they said they had not interest in selling, bluntly I might add. Anyway, Mike did say they could create something very close or virtually any design I wanted for that matter. So Ott, I am quite interested in the two designs you posted, thanks!

The mockups are a very good representation of me and my style but most people seem to prefer an inlay design with more of a "in your face" look and bright colors; that’s just not me. I talked with Dave Endy for a while tonight about the mold and edge spots, I am still going forward with it but right now it doesn’t seem like there are going to be enough people interested to really make it worth it.

I REALLY like those, and would like to see the mockups for the cash game denominations. Those are classy and understated, not too flashy. They look much closer to real casino chips than almost any other chips I've seen. Have you tried posting on the 2+2 forum to promote interest? Seems like more people should be interested for $.75 or under per chip.

circle,

I would be pretty interested in a set - I really like the mold, but I'm not too keen on the inlay. The side with the text looks great, but I don't really like the picture.

I think to promote more interest, you can

1) Make this a tournament set with "tournament," "ncv," etc. text on it and denominations w/ no $s
2) Make this a non denom'd set with no text or small logo

But ultimately you're the one organizing this so you have the final say. If you're set on the samurai design then by all means go for it. Personally I would love to have a tournament specific set a la the WSOP mockups (I bought 140 chips as samples and I regret not getting a full set when price was 0.72 /chip).

Posted Thu Mar 24, 2005 10:07 pm GMT by Nugzy
Im always interested in a set of custom chips! If I like the final design, you can count me in for 500-1000.

If I understand you correctly you think the picture with the woman on it is one side of the chip and the one with the Japanese design (character) is the other side of the chip. If that’s true I should have been more clear, my apologies. Each of those mockups is supposed to be a completely different chip. I just posted them like that so people could see a few different options. Whatever the design ends up being my intention was to make both side of the chip the same and with the same design on all denominations except the color of the dollar amount would change to match the edge spots of that particular chip. This is just what I had in mind when I made those up; it’s all optional at this point. The first two black chips are my personal favorites.

What everyone is saying is great! I appreciate the ideas and it’s good to hear that there are a few people interested. I will work on the designs and when I get my samples from BC I will make some better mockups with the correct edge spot configurations.

the chips look really nice
got couple comments on the layout not sure how i think about the $ sign on oriental design might just keep it simple with numbers and u might try to put the writing and the numbers with the same color as the edge color

Thanks for the comment. I am working with a friend to make some new mockups that will show the actual mold I want. The one in the picture is apparently owned buy ASM and they are not willing to sell the mold even though they don’t use it anymore. Anyway, here's another design I am considering. Of course it wouldnt be on the Nevada mold.

I got an email from Dave Endy today. He sent out some samples for chip color options yesterday. If there is anything interesting I will post it.

As for the mold, a friend of mine who is a graphic artist by trade is trying to help me make up a mockup with the mold I want so that you all can actually see it.

Sorry it’s taken so long to reply to this; I must have missed it some how. I will try and make some more concrete decisions on this. It seems like there are a few more people who are interested at this point. As I have said recently here and on a couple other threads, I am waiting on some samples from BC before I finalize my decisions about colors and I am also working with a graphic artist to try and create some quality mockups that will have the actual mold I want. It’s very close to the "small key" that the first mockups I posted have. Unfortunately the Small Key is not going to be possible. Thanks again to everyone who has given input. I have read and tried to take everyone’s ideas to heart. It’s sometimes redundant to respond to every post however.

I like the inlay idea, but not with the Nevada mold. With something close to the original mold idea, pure sublimity. What would the weight be?

The chips will absolutely NOT be on the Nevada mold. I just wanted to give some indication of what they might look like.

Weight - I have discussed this at length with both Mike and Dave Endy separately and they absolutely will not make a 10g chip. 9.3+/- is the absolute best we can hope for (i.e. NJ weight). The exact weight wont be known until they are made because the mold and the inlay size directly effect it. You can pretty much count on 9g average though.

How many colours do they offer? What are they like, ie. pastels, day glo etc. I mostly see softer more pastel stuff from them. Did the chips represent the edge spot options as well?

Well, as a matter of fact the chips -only- represented edge spot options. They were supposed to also show colors but every chip was the same two or three colors - disappointing. The way I understood it from Dave was he hand made them on different equipment than the production chips are made from. There were 10 different edge spot configurations in all and were all combinations of 1/8", 1/4", and 1/2" spots. The graphic artist I am working with is almost done with the mold so I will get the mock ups posted asap.

Great chips.
Love the mold and the edgespots up untill the $1K chip (maybe something other than gold on gold, Maybe black and red edgespots, I dunno.) I do like the lavender on purple for the $500 though.

Even though you probably won't change it:
I like the frontal design. However, it looks like a woman on the front. I would like to see a samurai with a sword in fighting mode on the front. Also the cent symbol needs to replace the "ct". You knew this though right?

The back design: Not sure what it will actually look like. Right now, it looks way too black. I like the black with white effects in the background, but this is not working. It looks like it says "AMURA" not "SAMURAI". And the Japaneese symbol in the back looks indistinguishable. The whole thing looks great, buy needs some color contrasting there.

Well just some feedback, other than that, they are great, and would consider buying a few like 250 if that would be OK.

Posted Mon Apr 11, 2005 12:05 pm GMT by circlencircle
Well it sounds like your suffering from the same thing as my computer at work. If I were to email you the actual jpeg all the problems you talked about with contrast wouldn't be there. And yeah the "ct" will be replaced, I just haven’t found a suitable image. Also, I've already made one modification to the chips, here's a look.

Too bad the pictures look weird on some computers... I don’t know if its a browser issue or what but like I said when I look at it at work its looks screwed and then at home its fine... weird.. Confused

This time I've set it up as a link, maybe it will look alright this way. Click the image again after it goes to the host for the best resolution.

Those chips look great. Couple of questions. Roughly how much are they going to run per chip? Are you sure the Endys can do that mold? Finally, are you open to changing the colors at all? Seems like the "set" sort of runs together up until the 500 and 1000's. I love the colors, but all of the others share some color and I was wondering if anyone thought you ought to bring the last two in line with the rest.

Anyway, great looking design. I am very interested.

I sent the same images to Dave Endy last night and as a matter of fact I just got off the phone with him. He said the only thing that is unsure of is the black inlay (which he has sent to his printer to check on) and he may not be able to reproduce some of the colors exactly.

At this point I'm not going to voluntarily change the colors until I get some samples from him. He is going to replicate the chips as closely as possible (minus in lay) and send them to me with a bunch of other chips with alternate color choices. As soon as I have them in front of me I will start to consider other options.
I will say though, that if it were possible I would have them made exactly as shown. I wanted the chips to really feel like they were part of a set and belong together. That’s why many of the colors are reused. As for the $500, and $1000 the reasoning for the simplistic design was based on some comments that Dave made to me about how casinos typically design there higher value chips. You also notice that the $100 is the most complex chip and the reason is for authenticity. According to Dave the $100 is the chip that casinos are most concerned about having counterfeit and therefore it is usually more complex than any other chip.

The price will will hopefully be about 75 cents each. I can’t say exactly until we know approximately how many chips will be ordered and to get the mold I am going to have to involve one of the retail sites. I have already talked to one seller about making an investment but it’s not 100% confirmed so I don’t want to give you a definite price.

Ok, here we go again. What can I say, I am never satisfied... This will be the last change unless Bluechip can’t reproduce them exactly as pictured. Keep in mind that apparently these images aren’t displaying correctly on all monitors due to verious differences in browsers and what have you.

These are some of the nicest home chip designs I have seen yet. Please post pics of the samples when you get them. I just sold my last Paulson chips and am in the market to replace them...your design just jumped to the top of my list. The colors for the $100 chips are absolutely perfect. I am, however, interested to see if "Blue Chip Co." can get the inlay centered and round. Good luck and great design.

these chips is starting to look very nice
my first impression is that 25,1,500 and 1000 is like from one chip set and 5,25 and 100 is from a diffrent set. would like to see all chips like the 25,1,500 and 1000 style not the style on 5,25and 100 reason is that most chips have 2 -3and 4 color edge and that is like following whats everyone is doing at the moment ,another thing is that i would like to see the dollar sign gone but thats beacuse where i live we dont use $ hehe

Thanks, glad you like them. As for the inlays being centered, I talked to Dave about it specifically and in his words "We stand behind the chips 100%, send them back if you're not satisfied". So my intention will be to do just that on any that aren’t right. I want these to be the best quality Bluechips available.

These designs have come along nicely. I don't entirely agree with some about the continuity of the set. I think the colours are very closely tied in the 5, 25, 100 and the others just stand out more.

I really like the 1 and 500 though and I'm sure with the actual colours, the spots on the 1000 will stand out a bit more.

Have you thought at all about using some colour on the inlay to tie the design into the chip colour? This is the one piece of detail I love on the Crystal Park chips (the denoms have a gradated colour matching that of the body colour)

Just some thoughts circ. Keep up the good work!!

I love the chip design, count me in on these.
Where can I see a good shot of and get a sample of the actuall physical chip (less the design of course).

Yes, it is. Sorry for the delayed reply. I was out of town with work for a few days. I received a large sample of chips from Dave while I was gone of all the colors they have (most anyway). He also sent me an email saying he sent out some samples of the chips (colors and edge spots i.e. no inlay or mold) and I will post pictures as soon as I receive those.

More to come soon!

I got the samples today and was pretty disappointed. The idea was that Dave was going to match the colors as closely as possible using his stock colors then make the chips with the edge spots I wanted using one of their molds.

Well, only one chip comes close (all I am talking about here is colors) and even that one could have been closer. Dave also sent a big sample of chips to me a few days ago so I could see in person his entire palate of colors and they do have all the colors I want with the exception of the charcoal-red-grey used for the spots on the $25 and $5 chips. Subsequently I’ve decided to change that color to a plain charcoal grey; it's basically the same without the red hue. The others he made are way off though. Fortunately its just a matter of opinion between mine and Dave's eye's and since they do have the colors I want I just have to call him tonight and let him know what colors I want based on the chart he sent me. I’m confident that once I tell him exactly what I want they will look great but I'm not going to bother posting pictures of what I have now because the chips look pretty ugly and I don’t want anyone to miss understand and think that’s what the chips will look like.

Stand by for more as soon as I have it.

Can you post a scan of the chart? I'd like to see what it looks like seeing as i requested one about 3 months ago and got nothing.

It’s probably not what you're thinking.

He sent me 32 chips of various colors and a sheet of paper with a list describing all the combinations. The chips were all hand made (not made in their factory) and they have various different inlays and molds on them, some chips even have one size inlay on one side and another size on the other. They are just something he threw together for me; the quality of the chips is pretty low and he asked that I not show them to anyone.

any new news?

Posted Fri Apr 22, 2005 8:05 pm GMT by circlencircle
A couple of the colors had to be adjusted due to BC's color limitations; they were minor changes though. Now I am waiting for the new chip samples to be sent to me. If they look good we will be ready to start taking orders shortly. Expect about another week before there is any earth shattering news. There is a bit of news concerning the weight of these chips but I dont want to give details until I can give you facts...

Stand by though!

if things look good once you get samples, what is the turnaround after that?

Sorry its taking so long to reply. I am actually out of town right now and dont have very good access to the web. I'll be back home mid week and the new samples should be there waiting.

I dont have a specific answer for your question yet. I will make a large post with all the details explaining everything you could possibly want to know when I have all the facts. I dont want to jump the gun and speculate about details. I dont think it will take long for the turn around though, just to give you some idea - I would say we are talking weeks rather than months.

I am interested in cotacting Blue Chip for an order of my own (I promise not to compete for your potential buyers). Can you please tell me how I can do that?

I ordered a 1000 chip custom set from pokerchips.com, and have never really been satisfied.

Please help. Thanks.

Glad you asked! I just received the final samples and they look great. I have a retailer already committed to the deal and we should have some specific dates and the price per chip within the next week or so. The custom mold is a definite go. Probably the most exciting thing is I have made some progress in convincing Dave to make a true casino weighted chip and though it is not written in stone yet, I think there is a very good chance that these chips will be 9.9g which would obviously make them the heaviest BlueChip on the market. The picture below is the most recent mockups with colors adjusted to match the actual samples I received. If the retailer I'm working with approves the samples this week, as expected, then the official group buy should start by the beginning of next week.

Nice! Shocked

Really beautiful chips! Only wish the $1000 chip had the brown edgespots.
Think that would look really nice and complete the set in a way.
Also, I would have probably used a diff color other than black for the word Samurai, something muted (maroon tone), but contrasting, so that you wouldn't need to use the white edging to show the word.
Overall a really excellent design.
Do you have a price quote yet? Was it $.75 a chip?

Posted Tue May 31, 2005 10:43 am GMT by softchewy
Ahh. I guess you are only using b/w, greyscale so another color for "samurai" might be out of the question.
Anyway, this is what I meant for the $1000 chip.
What do you think? (not about my photoshop skills.. i know they are weak Wink

I was just wondering if the center of the chip design is going to be slick or have linin type texture. I hate slick feeling chips! Also what is the final price shipped? looking forward t o getting some of these things.

Don’t have a price as of yet. I am trying to get a ballpark figure ASAP. As for the inlay, it will definitely have a linen finish. I don’t like slick either.

Still working weight issues with BC. As soon as that is finalized we can move on. 90cents is the most likely price. there have been some design changes. Check here for all the news. There are multiple threads so just look for anything titled custom bluechips or samurai palace...
