Top two pair - all in help |

Hi there, first time poster long time lurker.
I was playing in a home game this past Sunday and was playing fairly well all night. I wanted to see what others thought of the play that sent me home in 3rd place.
I'm holding K 10
Blinds are 400/800
I'm BB and the SB raises 800. I call.
Flop is K 10 8
SB checks.
I bet 1600, SB reluctantly calls but has the chip lead and 1600 is nothing and I put them on a straight draw.
Turn is a 2.
I go all-in (about 3000 or so). SB is taking forever to call so I know they're still drawing and I'm holding top two pair.
SB finally calls after about 5-8 minutes of mental frustration. I flip my cards over and they don't even wanna show theirs. They reluctantly put them on the table to reveal a A Q.
J comes on the river.
I made my play at the tall stack at the table and lost but felt I played it ok.
Any comments or suggestions would be great.

you played it great and don't be results-oriented.
It's not your fault the Jack rivered.

I actually laughed when the river came. I figured getting knocked out like that was a good way to go. Heheh.

There's not much you can do when someone will call your all-in on a gutshot draw. You played the hand well IMO. Whenever that happens to me, I analyze the hand and ask myself if I'd have made the same play again. I'm sure that you would. Nice read on your opponent by the way. If they hadn't caught the miracle on the river you'd have doubled up. You can't beat yourself up about it when someone calls you with only 4 outs and catches on you.

Thanks for the feedback.
The whole night nobody had the balls to go all-in with me until very late in the game. They feared me because they knew I'd put them all-in. I think I moved all-in about 9 times the whole game. Barely anyone would call me. I think I was called 3 times. Once was a split pot, the other I raked, and the third was the situation I explained above. It was pretty fun to have the other two people (when we got down to 3 handed) worried about me going all-in on them when I was the short stack. I picked up a lot of pots without contest because they were scared to play in a pot with me unless they had a killer hand.
I'm still learning and I feel I'm doing ok. I've read Super System 2 and a watched a bunch of videos from some of the greats. Of course, I learn a lot from you guys as well.
Thanks.

That's why I often dislike no-limit. People will do stupid things like call a gutshot with nowhere near the right pot odds and river you.

Many people love NL for this reason.

I don't think it would've made a difference whatsoever, but I probably would have pushed all-in if that flop was checked to me. Although if he was willing to call your all-in on the turn, what's another 1,600 or so on the flop. I would say thay you should feel as if you had won because you played better poker than he did and made a better decision here than he did. Although, I don't know how many chips the other guy had...he may have had so many chips that he would have been right to call you with anything.
