Early in 1000FPP satelite to WSOP on Pokerstars

Level 3 25/50

UTG raises 200
UTG1 Calls
I'm MP with 10 Diamond 10 Heart and call.
BB calls

Flop: A Diamond 8 Diamond 6 Diamond

BB goes all-in for 544
Fold
Fold
And then it comes to me. I have about 1400 in chips after the flop.

Do you call?

I was putting him on a pair of aces at best. I was more thinking he was bluffing being such short stack with a nice pot already. If he had an Ace, I would still have lots of outs, any diamond or 10.

Sure enough, he had called a 4xBB raise with 2 Diamond 3 Diamond
Turn and River were both blanks.

sure, too much equity to fold w/ a flush draw and 2nd pocket pair

Yep I call, it harder to fold here to me than to call, since you know you can't be reraised.

It's not going to destory me to be wrong either.

I would have called. The amount was right. The blinds were still low so you were not in danger of being blinded out. You have to suck out hands every now and then to have a legit chance in a large tourney.

This was one of those instances when it was right to call.

Interesting. I actually would have folded I think. I would rather lose a small pot then lose a big pot. You have a lot more time to make a stand. If he has the aces... he has you beat... if he has the flush already he has you beat. If another diamond comes up on the board, he could easly have a diamond face card, and have you beat.

I don't know, but my game (well, bankroll) has really improved since I started being more willing to give up these hands. Sure, I may give up some winners, but I figure he is just "holding" it for me. He will make the same kind of bet later when I am holding a monster.

Just my opinon.

i would fold. i may be totally off the mark, but i can't see that the big blind would have anything other than 2 connected diamonds here or A8s, A6s.

but i wanna know something else.
for my own education i'll admit, but why did you not re-raise pre-flop?

1: I don't play TT that strong. It doesn't hold up well after the flop. I see it the same as 22, almost. Obviously its stronger, but the odds of having a rag flop all under T are pretty slim.

2: I'm always wary of people playing UTG. If I see someone playing from UTG I assume that they must have a strong hand. This in theory is true, you should only play very strong hands from UTG or UTG+1. Of course online, that isn't always true.
