One thing I hate is when I get a run of bad cards, so I don't see the flop for a while. Then when I finally get a hand, no one wants to give me any action because I've been playing so tight.
So, I was thinking that I need to give myself a limit, where I have to see the flop every so often, just so I won't seem like such a rock.
I would appreciate any advice on (1) how long I should be willing to go without playing a hand, and (2) how low I should let my starting hand requirements drop after I haven't seen a flop in a while (should I play Axs or suited connectors from early position? what about QTo? 98o late? A7o from the button? etc).

I'm a tight player as well, and I know how you feel. I played on Friday for 12 hours and didn't finally get a run until after an 11 hour stint of bad cards. When I "lower my standards" because I'm not getting good cards, I generally try to do so when I sense weakness in my opponents. If I'm in late position and there's only 2 limpers and I have a junk hand, I just might raise with it or I may call just to see a flop. I would base your playing lesser hands not on a time or number of hands basis, but on the strength/weakness of your opponents. If they all seem weak, see a flop with trash every once in a while if you can limp. Maybe you'll hit. If not, you've not spent a lot and it's easy to fold. Otherwise, just be patient. Your run will come. If you play the player when you aren't getting cards, you can scoop more pots. Also, if you're known as a rock at the table, you can steal many blinds/hands just by betting, no matter what cards you have.

First, you are not alone. Had it happen to me last week, got short stacked (my own fault) in a tourney and never saw a playable hand again and got blinded out.
If this is truely something you think you want to do, I would attempt it on the button or in late position since in Hold'em position is everything. You know what most of the other players are doing and can throw it away if someone raises big in front of you. This way you have better odds to see a flop. When you call in early position, someone behind you raises, you then have to make the decision to fold and you just donated chips to the pot and saw no cards.
I would not lower my starting hand value too much. Ax or Kx in late position is not horrible (based on # players in the pot) if only one or two have called. Connectors or suited may be ok if you can see them cheaply.
The hard part when you finally get a hand an everyone folds may just be that you had the only playabe hand and not necessarily your table image that scared them off. It just looks that way to you because you know how long it has been since you played a hand.
One last thing, if you think your image is very tight/aggressive then take advantage of it in late position if you haven't played for awhile. If there are just a few limpers into the pot you can raise it and try and steal the pot right there. If you don't have to show your cards, they will never know what you had.
