Another question about side pots.

Posted Tue Mar 22, 2005 9:29 pm GMT by jacatone
Player A has $150

Player B has $100

Player C has $300

Player D has $400

Player E has $500

Player F has $300

Player A goes all in with his $150. Player C calls and the $50 difference is put in a side pot. Would players D,E and F also have their $50 put in this same side pot. What would happen if Player D wanted to raise another $100. How would all that be sorted out? Thanks.

This isn't the answer to exactly what you asked..but how bout as simple as if everyone goes all-in.

Pot 1 is 600 ABCDEF can win
Pot 2 is 250 ACDEF can win
Pot 3 is 600 CDEF can win
Pot 4 is 200 DE can win

E is left with $100 even if D wins it all. If E wins, they bust em all.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

If player A is all in with his $150 and player C calls, player C has $150 left, and there would be no sidepot, just a main pot of $300 (excluding any blinds of course).

On the other hand if Player C went all in over the top of player A then there would be a main pot of $300 (2x$150) and a side pot of $150 (which we will call sidepot 1, player C's $300 minus the $150 player A bet to go into main pot equalling his initial bet).

All players now after player C pay $300 to call and $450 minimum raise (unless allin which would create further sidepots), they can of course fold.

If player D was to raise all in ($400) then $150 goes into main pot, $150 into side pot 1, and the remaining chips go into a new sidepot (which we will call sidepot 2).

As no remaining player has more chips than player D the only choice available to any players is to call. Player E does have more, but as no one has $500 no call can be made. therefore he will only have the option to call. This is because if he went all in the $100 over, would be returned regardless of the outcome, as no one has the chips to call the $500 just the $400.

So we say player E also calls. Same as before $150 into mainpot, $150 into sidepot 1 and $100 into sidepot 2. Player F also calls. only having $300 his money is split $150 into main pot and $150 into sidepot 1. he doesn't have enough to play for sidepot2.

These are now the pot sizes and their make up.

mainpot - $750
$150 player A all in
$150 player C
$150 player D
$150 player E
$150 player F

Sidepot1- $600
$150 player C all in
$150 player D
$150 player E
$150 player F all in

Sidepot2- $200
$100 player D all in
$100 player E

When cards are flipped over winnings can only go as follows. For the sake of arguement, player B is not involved.

Player A can only win main pot, players C & F can only win main pot and sidepot 1. Only players D & E can win all the chips as they have enough to meet all bets.

If player A has best hand then he gets mainpot. Then we see who has second best hand. lets say its player C, he then wins all side pot 1, best hand out of D & E then decides who gets final Sidepot. If D or E had the best hand out of everyone, they get the lot.

Hope that helps as that took me a while! Wink
