I know these are cheap but I would like to know people opinions on them. Feel free to be as harsh as you like. I know that for home games these are going to be perfectly fine but what I want to know is the differences in these compared to more expensive ones.

ive seen some for 3c each.... you cant go wrong... it definitly gets the job done, 1000 of em for $30.... it really it the best value you will ever get....
but.... theyre not heavy enough... just plain colors.... no edge spots... and the sound isnt too great.... but for the cost... theyre the best thing out there

Am I correct in presuming that edge spots are just for aesthetic purposes or do they have a real function?

theyre just for looks.....with most chips... but with ASMs, a chip without edgespots is stronger than a chip with them, but that is just because of how they are made (at least with pokerchips.com they are)

It's also supposed to help chip counts. The spots help break up the color between chips, so you can see "five in a stack" a lot easier.
I have a ton of these diamond chips, and I honestly think that they are THE BEST value right now at 3ยข each. Do NOT buy any 11.5 weighted chip over these. These diamonds stack better, feel more like clay, and are lighter (nice when carrying 2000 to a tourney).

I have the 9g diamonds, the 10g faux clay, and 20 $1 chips from the bellagio. I wouldn't buy the 7.5g diamonds if I could find the 9g ones for 5 or 6 cents. Got mine on ebay for 5 cents 1000 with racks. The faux clay are better. The belliago chips smoke both but are a dollar a each.
