2/4 limit or 1/2NL? Which is better for a casino newb? |

I played in a 100+20 tourney at the taj in AC last sunday, but that was my fist time playing poker in a casino. I didn't play badly, but didn't catch too many cards worth playing either & at the end I basically felt like a cash game was more to my advantage. What I'm not sure of is whether to start on 2/4 limit tables or just goto 1/2NL. I'm more of a no-limit player for sure, but I'm not sure what kind of $$ I need to sit down at either table. I was planning on bringing down $200, I'm sure that would be plenty for the 2/4 limit game, but not so sure about the 1/2NL. Any advice? Also, if 200 is enough but sort of low-end for the 1/2NL game, should I just stick with what I'm used to or just go conservative & play the 2/4 limit? Any thoughts are appreciated.

2/4 limit you should have 2 solid buyins(typical limit buy in of 50xBB). So it would take a rough go of things to lose $200 in under 4 hours (it can be done though!).
NL, I think that you should still be OK buying in for $100 twice.
The main difference is limit your $200 WILL last several hours, NL it might or might not.

Honestly I think it's better to learn to be a solid limit player first. A lot of newer players I see pick up "bad" habits from NL game--by "bad" I mean inappropriate for limit games, because it's a whole different set of skills.
