Almost immediately Scotty Nguyen said this to Kevin McBride at the 1998 wsop final, Kevin replied "I call, I play the board."
Call it goading your opponant, call it reverse psychology, this was a legendary move by Scotty. The board McBride was playing was 88899, of course, Scotty had just moved all in and of course, he held a 9
To finally see this almost mythical piece of wsop history made my heart flutter as it happened. Something i had heard about over and over, and finally watching it.
I watched this as a The Poker Channel presentation, they didn't mess up the original espn coverage too badly, it would be hard to, not exactly what we're used to these days with hole cams and constant commentary and almost every hand shown, an action hand.
Still it had a magical quality, even Vince Van Patten did a good job as commentator Something i never thought i would say!
I love these old shows for what they are, a magical piece of the history of this game we call Hold Um.
I'm looking forward to more and more of these golden oldie shows being uploaded now that The Poker Channel is in full swing here, they could leave out the laughable "tips from the Hendon Mob" slot tho
If anyone needs help finding how to get these shows onto their pc, just PM me, i'll help ya

Though he was almost annoyingly pompous about it, Helmuth made excellent reads and two of the final hands that were played. I thought that was really impressive, moreso with the JT vs AQ hand. I kind of like the lack of hole card cams. You can play along and try to read the players. I was totally off and thought McBride had nothing when he went all-in with trip fours, then went to the washroom. But then again, Scotty made the same mistake so I don't feel so bad.
