Allright ... I'd like to know what you guys usually bet/raise with when you've got the premium hands, i.e. high pocket pairs, and suited face cards, etc.

in terms of the BB please

depends on position and how many people are already in the pot or left to act (position position position)

It also depends on how big the stacks are, what the stakes are, what kind of raises have been typical in the game, what hand I have....

yes, what snoogins said too

I agree that position is a big key and the feel of the table. I try to do the same raise consistently, 4xBB if that will get callers or I will lower it to 3xBB if needed to get callers. I just try and stay constant. That way you are not giving a tell on the strength of your hand by how much you are betting.

That is my preflop advice anyway.

There been a lot of “it depends” already, I’d like to add some more.
I don’t think you can really club premium hands together and label them with a standard raise. On top of everything mentioned I’d like to add players to the list.

My AKs raise is measured to get multiple callers, sweetening the pot so I can hopefully clean up with a monster later.

My AA raise is measured to get a single caller for as much as possible. Then I’ll probably move all-in on the flop if not before.

In each case you need to know the players and what they’re willing to bet so you can manipulate them. I feel like it comes down to controlling the risk while trying to maximise the profit.

I vary my raises from 3x to 6x and I vary them depending upon some random factor (although I rarely go 6x with AA). This way, there is no pattern to my preflop raises so no one can read me for a particular hand. Also, if I am first in having LP, I will make the sma etypes of raises wih more marginal hands (any pair, low and high suited connectors) just to theow people off even more. If I win the blinds on one of these, I might even show depending upon how tough the table is. You can never have too mcuh edge.

I raise as much as I do with every other raising hand.

First in 3,5bb and for every limper I add 1bb. In particulary loose games with calling stations I raise 4-5bb first in.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2/4 FL on party

Preflop: KK in the BB, UTG maniac raises, three callers I 3-bet, UTG maniac caps.

Flop: 6 6 5 rainbow. MP bets, next guy calls, I raise, UTG 3-bets, 1 fold, 1 call, I call.

Turn: 3 still a rainbow board. UTG bets other guy folds, I raise, UTG calls.

River 5: He checks, I bet, he raises, I call.

Showdown: You guessed it, he had Q6s.

I know I was behind on every street (except preflop), is it still a "bad beat"?

Speaking of how we sounded a year ago, suited...

With a large pocket pair -QQ-AA, and AKs
If 3-4 people have entered the pot:
If pot was raised- I would reraise about 4x or 5x the size of the raise to make it look like a steal and isolate one player
If the players limped- I would raise a little bit more than the size of the pot up to double the size of the pot if i thought a player would call me.

If im the first one in the pot
late position- raise about 5-6x the size of the big blind
middle position- raise 3-4x the size of the big blind.

To put this in easier- I would raise to an amount that seems like i am trying to steal the pot and hope somebody reraises me and i can move all in on him.

With big suited cards i would make the standard raise at the table- sometimes it happens to be 5x the big blind and see what everybody else does.
