3/6 last night

Posted Sat Mar 26, 2005 12:02 pm GMT by badvb750
Had a good time playing 3/6 last night at my local cardroom. I had this poker theorist across the table from me anazyling every move. I think his favoroite saying was "that is why you don't play a weak Ace".

This hand was funny. I had JJ in mp and this Maniac straddled the blinds.

I raised to 9 and he caps. There was about 4 or 5 ppl seeing the flop.

The turn brings XXK.

I check called. Turn X (I folded on the turn) & River X

Turns out the maniac caught AA when he staddled. Everyone at the table got a big kick out of it, but the guy with KQ.

I was up about 60, when I got called over to the stud game where I got murdered.

I've had good runs in 3/6 before, but last night I couldn't put scratch together. Every straight I'd make I'd be up against a full house or flush, and eventually I started calling down just because I was on tilt (yes, very stupid I know). I made the right decision sitting left of the table maniac, but I got tired of folding marginal hands I'd usually limp in on, and I let myself get pot-committed on stupid hands, which cost me big. If I'd played right, I probably could have been up $200, but instead I walked away down $25 and disgusted with myself for stupid play.

If he stradled the blinds then the cap should be $15 not $12.

some places bump the cap on a straddle some dont. It depends on whether they allow 4 bets or 4 raises.

Likewise, some places allow 5 bets preflop w/ no straddle and some only 4.

Thanks Dave.. guess i'm just accustomed to 4 raises regardless.

Where i play you can still only raise 2 times after the straddle bet. If i was playing 3/6 it would be $12.

Yeah, I tried to re-raise him, but the dealer said the pot was capped. In retrospect I'm glad :D .

No cap heads up where I have played (MN, IL, LA, WI and Vegas). I once had someone 10 or 11 bet me at 8/16 preflop when I had AA. He never showed his hand.

I'm pretty stubborn, and it only takes me at most a 3-bet to figure it out. Wink
