Pocket Cards

In order to win do you have to use both pocket cards no matter what.. My friends and I had a huge argument about this. For example if you have say a 2 & a Q as pocket cards, then the river cards come and you get a streight, 2,3,4,5,6. would it matter that he diddnt use his queen. I know the wording isnt great but please bare with me.. Thanks in advance!

You do not have to use any of your pocket cards. If the board is AsKsQcJcTd, the pot will be split no matter what. You use any five of the seven cards you want (the five that will give you the best hand).

No. That simply means you use 5 cards only. If you have A 5, your oppoent has A 3, and the board is A k J J 2, the pot is split. You both have AAJJK. If you had the same hole cards and the board was A J 9 7 2, you would have A J 9 7 5, your oppoent would have A J 9 7 3, so you would win.

Only time you have to use both your hole cards is for the jackpot in some casinos, or if you're playing Omaha.
