...who put "PAULSON" in the subject line of all their Blue Chip sales need to have their account banned. It's like Wendy's advertising that their chili does not come with pieces of human finger inside.

I did this when I sold my TR Kings. It is the best way if you want to make the most money. My title said "TR King (not Paulson)", that way my chips would appear whenever "Paulson" was searched for.
Posted Sun Mar 27, 2005 7:53 pm GMT by yeltzen
Well, call me old-fashioned, but I think that's cheating.
*runs off to add "Not Paulsons" to his Desert Sands eBay auction*

lol. I know what you mean though...Some people just say "Paulson", and those who are un-educated about chips might really think they are Paulson's. I just mentioned the Paulson name in my title so my auction would appear. That's why you'll see car auctions that say "Porsche Dodge Ford Mercedes Viper BMW Oldsmobile Car for sale!!!"

It's tricks of the trade to get the most page views from searches. Otherwise your auction would be left in obscurity.

I guess I don't have a big problem (just a nit bitch) about putting Paulson in the title -- as long as they give complete and correct info in the body of the listing. Ya wanna sell this stuff, but don't outright lie.
Of course, then there's everyone who puts "clay" in the titles of their 11.5g Chinese plastic chips!
Posted Sun Mar 27, 2005 10:15 pm GMT by yeltzen
I dunno... my title just says "Nevada Jacks Desert Sands" and it's gotten lots of page views.
Posted Sun Mar 27, 2005 10:29 pm GMT by ott
Stick the word Paulson in there and see your page views triple.
Posted Sun Mar 27, 2005 10:45 pm GMT by yeltzen
That's okay, I prefer the honest way.
I'm not going to get near what the chips are worth no matter what I do, so there's no reason for me to do that.

Adding words like that to your Ebay description is against Ebay's rules:
Keyword Spamming
Keyword spamming is the practice of including brand names or other inappropriate "keywords" in a title or description for the purpose of gaining attention or diverting users to a listing. Keyword spamming is unfair to members who may be searching for a specific item and receive search results of listings that are not selling the item. Users often are confused and frustrated by such tactics.
I hate it when I do a search on Ebay and get a bunch of garbage results because of this.
If someone really wants Paulson's why on earth would they want to look at something else??
My two cents,
TT

I second that. I rarely use ebay anymore because its become this magnet for infomercial type crap. No matter what i type in I get a list full of garbage that no one wants to buy.

Yeltzen you are wrong. (queue usual abusive post due to non agreement).
Putting NOT PAULSON on your chip sale is neither illegal unethical or against Ebays rules. Sorry but NOT PAULSON means exactly that not paulson duh.

It's only done with the intent of funneling Paulson traffic to their auction. It's spamming.

No it's not,are you stupid enough to buy something that states its not what you are looking for,I don't think so.Well I hope you wouldn't,If you do then I really feel sorry for you.
Ebay clearly states to read the description before buying.NOT PAULSON couldn't be any more clear. How stupid would you have to be to buy something that staes it's not what you want. DOH.
Posted Mon Mar 28, 2005 5:58 pm GMT by yeltzen
How stupid do you have to be to not understand that writing "NOT PAULSON" in an item description is only used to make it show up when someone types "Paulson" in? People shouldn't allowed to scam others into buying a shit product. If they did something like that on TV, they would be nailed for false advertisement.
Posted Mon Mar 28, 2005 6:10 pm GMT by DerryABU
This has reached stupidity levels I have never seen before.
Lets get this straight.
If i was to go on TV and advertise something as"not a pair of nike trainers" then there is no chance in hell that I could be sued for false advertising for selling a pair of non Nike shoes. It is there in black and white NOT is this word recognisable to you yeltzen beacause it seeems not.
Posted Mon Mar 28, 2005 6:11 pm GMT by tonytal
Like it isn't abundantly clear that the chips are not Paulsons when they are called something else.
Maybe I will sell my Kia Sedona on ebay and put that it is not a Ferrari just so everyone is clear about that.
Later,
TT

Well if you do it's still not false advertising is it?????

The point is, Mr. Smarty Pants, that when people are looking for true Paulson chips on eBay, some jackass' Blue Chip sale will appear because he has "NOT PAULSON" in the title. That's spamming, plain and simple. It's making listings that the buyer DOES NOT WANT TO SEE appear.
Posted Mon Mar 28, 2005 6:23 pm GMT by tonytal
Whatever. . . .
That was never my point to begin with. It is keyword spamming.
Please continue to lure potential buyers using unscrupulous means. Obviously, you have no problem with that.
I am done.

When I sold my TR Kings, I put "not Paulson" in the title. The auction got delted the next day -- violation, misleading title. I included 1 Paulson chip so that I could get hits.

At last a ray of sanity.
Warewulf do you sleep well at night.
Posted Mon Mar 28, 2005 6:51 pm GMT by warewulf619
I sleep much better when people think my TR Kings are Paulsons and pay me more for them! Clay is clay right?

Nope. Your TRKings are actually better than Paulsons. Did you read 10%er's bake-off?

Putting "Not Paulson" in the title is clearly keyword spamming. Are these sellers hoping that someone will accidentally buy their chips? No. But they're hoping someone searching for Paulsons will see their auction and say to themselves, "Hmmm, those look good, I've never heard of them before, but they're probably just as good as Paulsons." It's an attempt to gain traffic to their auction, pure and simple.
This is done with golf clubs all the time. Some sellers even put in their auction descriptions something like, "Not Titleist, but just as good!"

Exactly... this is small stuff compared to the garbage that goes on with golf equipment. "TITLEIST CALLAWAY TAYLORMADE CLEVELAND PING 10* DRIVERknock offHOT HOT HOT!!!!!!!!!!"
