Hi folks, I've got a home game this weekend and I'm hosting for the first time in my house. I have an old dining room table with lots of sections and joints so it will be absolutely terrible to play on unless I get a table-top cover in a hurry.
What is my best bet for getting something set up for this weekend? Should I just go to a Wal-Mart or arts and crafts store and buy some green felt and tape it to the table? Or is there something better for not much more money that I should get? Any particular recommendations on brands ?
Please don't tell me that I need to make a poker table in the next 3 days  or that I will need to spend lots of cash. Just looking for a cheap fix for this weekend. Thanks!!

If you are just going to drape it over the table then it will be very annoying to play on as it will keep bunching up and moving. Taping it to the table might work but it still will be kind of loose. I say its best to just use the table the way it is. When i play at a friends house we have a sectioned dining room table and we tried putting felt over top of it and found that it would be better just to use the table the way it is.

We drape a heavy blanket over the dining room table and it works great. If we know we're going to play all weekend, we tape it down. I forgot what kind of blanket it is, but it's a better surface than any felt I've played on. I'm not sure they make them much anymore though, as I've been looking for one for a long time. I absolutely hate playing on a bare glass table. It's very difficult to shuffle and look at your cards.
Edit to add it's a Vellux blanket.

Yeah, go to Wal-Mart and pick up some cheap felt fabric (usually available in several colors). Or any fabric that feels good.
Drape it over the table, stretch it tight, and tape it underneath with masking tape. Or if your table is square, you can pull the corners tight and clamp it under each corner (that's what we do for the kitchen table). Go to Home Depot or Lowe's or Big Lots and pick up some cheap Chinese spring clamps (the 11.5g gram clay kind!), something like these:

And then have some fun. The felt will pill up after a bunch of uses, but then just buy some more or invest in a folding table or build one yourself.

You can get some cheap headliner material (thin foam) at a local fabric store and cut it to the size of the table.
You could just leave it like that. Most headliner has a smooth side and an exposed foam side... just put the foam side down and you're done. If it slides around too much, buy some of that rubbery material you put under throw rugs to keep them in place on wood floors.
If you want to add a nicer surface than the headliner, buy a cheap tablecloth at WalMart that fits your table and throw it on top of the headliner.
As an added measure buy tablecloth that has a hem around the edges and fish a string (or even better... "shock cord") through it and pull it tight. The tablecloth will wrap around the edges of the table and keep the healiner flat and in place.
Total cost probably less than $20.

I second the rubber rug stay, I used that more than once with the faux suede and it worked perfectly, and gave a nice bounce to the table. but if you don't already have one they can be a bout $20 on their own.

I bought this also, you could probably find my feedback there somewhere and I love it! He has two choices of material, I bought the Velour (velvet) in Burgandy and it is awesome, though my Kems don't slid too well but it's no a problem. It is great because it takes up no storage space and looks really, really good.

that looks pretty neat for a home poker game. I might just have to get one. or make one it shouldnt be that hard to do.
