my own inept play.
I've only played online until this past weekend. My wife and I were meeting some friends at Harrah's in AC for a get together. I figured it was time to break the seal on live play.
I sat down at a 1-2NL table with the max buy in of $200. Very loose table; constant raising with crap. Since I'm still getting down the feel of playing live and trying not to screw up, I was playing extremely tight. I only saw one flop (as unraised BB) until the hand below.
Sometime in the middle of the 3rd loop around the table, I'm dealt JJ in MP. Guy before me in MP bets $15. I raise to $30. LP makes it $60. I've been watching the two betters for about 20 hands and I know they've been playing a lot of junk. Original better makes it $120.
This should've been my cue to exit.
Unfortunately, I did not.
I call. Flop is nothing special 10, 5, 3 with 2 clubs. LP bets $75, I only have $60 or so left, but I believe I'm committed at this point. Turn brings a club which for a moment makes me think somebody hit their flush. River is a K.
Original bettor turns over QQ, LP turns over AK and takes down a healthy pot. Somewhere in the neighborhood of $550-$600.
I received a nice lesson...

An expensive lesson but I bet next time you will lay it down when you are sure your beat. Did you cut your losses and leave the table or buy back in and keep playing?

If I were you mate I’d start with a cheap tourney. Fixed risk and lots of time to get used to the atmosphere of casino play. You can always jump on a limit table when you finish.
