Rule regarding bet/check/flop..

Posted Wed Apr 06, 2005 12:27 pm GMT by rosorus
I recently started playing Texas Holdem on Yahoo for fun and am quickly picking up the limit game. One thing however confuses me which is after the Flop, Turn and River if I am the first player I am only given the option to Check or Flod.. Surely I should be able to "Bet" in this situation. Was wondering if anyone could shed any light.

Also for a small informal home game would it be worthwhile using an ante or blinds? Thanks

John

Yeah, I don't get that either. Check, bet and fold should be the three options. I'm not familiar with the Yahoo! interface though.

Absolutely. I never use antes though unless we're playing 5 card draw, and that never happens anymore. For Omaha, Texas Hold'em and Triple Draw, use small and big blinds. For 5 and 7-card stud and variants, have low card (or high card in the case of razz) "bring it in" for a small amount.

Here are a couple of possibilities.

1. The other player went all in and you are the only other player in the hand. Then you can only call or fold. Raising makes no sense so the button would not be there.

2. The other player bet an amount that is greater than the amount of chips you have. Then you can only fold or call (all-in).

I just checked out the Yahoo interface, and I can see exactly the same thing. That is clearly a bug, you should be able to open with a bet in that situation.
