Sorry, I'm a newbie to Casino Hold'em.. what does it mean when you see a $2-$4-$8-$8 hold'em table, or a 1-4-8-8, etc....
I'm guessing that 2/4 tables are.. $2 small blind/$4 big blind, correct? 3/6 same thing being the same... 3 small 6 big..

2/4 or 3/6 are bet amounts for that table. If it's a 3/6 table the bets before the flop and after the flop are $3. The raises, if any, are in the same amounts. The bets on the turn and river are $6. The blinds are usually small blind half of the pre-flop and flop bets and the big is usually the amount of the pre-flop bets. For instance, if it's a 3/6 table the big blind is $3. Make sense?

These are all limit betting games. The numbers refer to the amount of the betting and raises allowed in each round. 1 4 8 8, $1 preflop betting and raises, $4 after the flop, $8 after the turn and $8 after the the river is dealt.
Big blinds are usually the amount of the 1st round of betting, or $1 in this case. Small blinds are usually 1/2 the big blind (with some rounding based on the size of chips in play).
2/4 has $2 betting preflop and post flop and $4 betting after the turn and after the river. Blinds are $1 and $2.

Hmm.. thanks for the info.. it's a bit clearer..
So if these are limit games, are there such things as a 2/4 no limit? Would the blinds and bets be the same or does all that go out the door?

No...that goes out the window. NL games have a big and small blinds that are usually a percentage of the max table buy in. For example: $50 max buy in NL, blinds of $.50 and $1.

Ahh I see.. $50 max buy in meaning when you walk up to the table the most chips you can buy is $50?
Sorry, real raw newb here.. been online playing mostly and the games types seem different.

Dave--
Have you ever seen a casino game with bets at $1-4-4-8???
That would be my definition of hell. You'd have to see every flop. God knows what people would hit in a game like that. You'd get your high pairs cracked constantly. You couldn't protect a hand. And the blinds would be what? $.50 and $1.00?
Who dreamed THAT up?

I think it would be terrible too. The only reason for doing it is to increase the pot sizes for the rake. Like you said, everyone would be calling w/ 2nd or 3rd pairs and any drawing hand.
I have even seen casinos that have $1/1/1/4. Now that is even MORE messed up. And no-i have never played one of these games and hope that I never will.
