Are edge spots just painted on? |

I had thought that the actual clay was colored, which is why it is more expensive to have edge spots. But after looking closely at my samples of NJs, along with some actual casino chips, it looks like some edge spots are just painted on. So which is it? Thanks.

They are not painted on. If they were when the edges get rounded the edge spots would wear off.

You can prove that the color of the clay goes all the way thru by intentionally breaking a chip. If you do you will see that the color goes all the way thru.

I was just referring to clay chips, not composite. My NJ samples have little splotches of other colors on them, so they looked like paint. I guess their just little bits of colored clay though. Also, this picture looked to me like white paint that was worn down. But I guess it's just blue clay that has rubbed off on the white.
Good to know that they're not painted. Thanks.

yeah, if it wears off, it's fake. I have a friend with dice chips, the paint is wearing off on many.

Here is a pic of a clay chip where you can see the edge spots go straight through.

Haven't you broken some sort of sacred unspoken rule when you destroyed those chips...how dare you!!!

My pile of broken, sawed, viced, belt-sanded and hammered chips has grown significantly since I took that pic. You would be horrifyfied.
If you think that's bad, TenPercenter BAKED a bunch of his chips. At least my chips's have a relatively quick death....he tortures his!!!....
And CreatureX, many thanks for noting the source of the photo. Wish there were more folks out there like you.
Cheers,
John
